Prosegur drives the use of 6G technologies for security at large events through EU’s TrialsNet
Applying its comprehensive and proactive innovation strategy, Prosegur is leading a Smart Crowd Monitoring trial in Madrid to improve security at major sporting events.
Madrid, May 13, 2024.- Reflecting its commitment to growth through technological innovation, Prosegur, a leading security services company, has announced its leading role in TrialsNet (Trials supported by Smart Networks beyond 5G), an EU project to lead the technological transition beyond 5G to the next generation of mobile networks.
The move toward communication technologies beyond 5G to 6G promises to revolutionize European cities. This ambitious project will involve 13 large-scale trials to positively impact areas of social relevance such as sustainability, resilience, inclusion, trust, security, among others.
These trials will enable a comprehensive evaluation of the network's key performance indicators, providing a socio-technical perspective toward the early adoption of these solutions in Europe, explains Silvia Provvedi, TrialsNet Project Coordinator: "TrialsNet focuses on a diverse range of 6G applications, including robots, metaverse and the Internet of Senses, and has the potential to improve healthcare and emergency infrastructures, optimize transportation, enhance security and boost the potential of tourism and culture."
Manuel Rodríguez-Reguero, Global Director of Transformation at Prosegur, highlights the active participation of the company, which through its Prosegur Security division, will play an active role in the Infrastructure, Transport, Safety and Security group, where it leads the Smart Crowd Monitoring trial: "This initiative seeks to capitalize on the advantages offered by 5G/6G technologies to protect people at crowded events.”
Innovation in Sports Event Security
The use of advanced technologies, taking advantage of the reduction in data transmission latency from security devices such as cameras and access systems, enables more efficient intervention in the event of security incidents. This enables the remote operation of equipment such as drones and ground robots, optimizing surveillance and rapid response to incidents.
Carolina García, Innovation Manager at Prosegur explains: "Given that a significant 32% of Europeans attend sporting events at least once a year, providing security for them is an undisputed priority". In response, Prosegur Security is leading a pioneering initiative at one of Madrid’s best-known sports venues to implement pioneering security solutions for large crowds.
Prosegur hosts consortium meeting
The TrialsNet project, which will run until the end of 2025, is led by Ericsson Italy, in collaboration with 22 prestigious European institutions. The consortium’s most recent meeting was held on February 20 at Prosegur's headquarters in Madrid, attended by all its members, and was an opportunity to assess the trials that Prosegur, together with Ericsson, Telefónica and the Carlos III University have carried out at 5Tonic, a leading research and innovation laboratory in the Spanish capital focused on 5G technologies. The results of the Open Call launched within the project, which will finance new demonstrative pilots for the use of 6G networks, were also discussed. With a budget of more than €5million, this call received 158 applications from entities all over Europe.
