Prosegur Group renews its emissions compensation plan with support for the REDD + Selva Matavén project in Colombia
A Prosegur sustainability initiative, the compensation plan is integrated into its 2024-27 Sustainability Master Plan.

Madrid, April 4th, 2025.- Prosegur, a leading Spanish company in the private security sector, and Prosegur Cash, its business unit specialized in the transport of valuables and comprehensive management of the cash cycle, are deepening their emissions compensation plan with the acquisition of Carbon Credits to support the REDD + Selva Matavén project in Colombia. Designed to promote mitigation and adaptation to climate change, the conservation of ecosystems, local forests and the maintenance of biodiversity, it will contribute to the social and economic development of historically marginalized areas of Colombia.
Prosegur's CO2 emissions compensation plan was launched in 2021, and is a pioneer in the sector in terms of scale and objectives. With its development, the company is currently offsetting CO2 emissions equivalent to those generated by its operations in Europe, Central and North America.
This year, Prosegur will focus its efforts on supporting the REDD+ Unified Indigenous Reservation - Matavén Jungle Project (REDD+ RIU-SM), which aims to develop a participatory restoration process to set up an integrated management system for the forests and lands of the reserve, ensuring sustainability and mitigating threats to their conservation. The area is an important region for its abundant biodiversity due to the diversity of landscapes and habitats served by approximately 16,000 indigenous people.
The Selva de Matavén Reservation is a region in the northeastern part of the Vichada Department, Colombia. With an area of 1,849,613 hectares, it is the last well-preserved transition zone in the country, located between the savannas of the Orinoquía and the Colombian Amazon. It is a sanctuary for biodiversity and a bastion of indigenous culture.
The REDD + Selva Matavén initiative has six special programs that respond to the needs of the indigenous community and seek to generate a tangible positive impact. Within the environmental axis, the project will help protect 1,150,212 hectares of natural forests, more than 800 river lands, about 120 species of plants and 249 species of birds. With regard to the human axis, thanks to REDD + Selva Matavén, measures will be undertaken to promote the educational conditions of more than 9,800 young people and children, different activities will be developed for 1,233 elderly people to share their knowledge of traditional medicine and community history and 270 projects will be launched to guarantee food security in indigenous communities.
The initiatives will boost sustainable growth among 350 communities of six indigenous ethnic groups. As Juan Ignacio de Guzmán, Global Director of Institutional Relations and Sustainability, of the Prosegur Group, explains: "Prosegur's emissions compensation plan, now in its fifth year, reflects our commitment to the environment and the transformation toward a sustainable global society. In addition, on this occasion, we wanted to go a step further, supporting a socio-environmental project that will have a positive impact on the environment of indigenous communities, reaffirming our commitment to the native peoples of the countries where we have a presence."
The compensation plan is one of several Prosegur sustainability initiatives within its Sustainability Master Plan. This strategic roadmap is based on several fundamental pillars of work: environment; people; safe work; ethics, transparency and governance.
